On 8 June 1961, Katharine Worsley married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, the eldest son of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina, at York Minster.

The bride’s gown was designed by John Cavanagh, on the recommendation of her mother-in-law (he also designed Princess Alexandra‘s wedding dress two years later) and apparently both Princess Marina and Katharine had reservations about the grandeur and size of the gown during the design phase - it must have looked huge in the designer’s work room.
