Hope Cooke and Crown Prince of Sikkim







On 20 March 1963, Hope Cooke, an American Anglican, married the Crown Prince of Sikkim in a Buddhist monastery. Although she was dropped from the Social Register, the marriage was enthusiastically reported in National Geographic magazine; and The New Yorker followed the royal couple on one of their yearly trips to America.
